About us
While chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells are unprecedentedly successful and efficacy for cancer therapy, their high costs, up to $ 1 million or more, limit many desperate patients from their access. This is due principally to the laborious and sophisticated manufacturing of CAR-T cells. The key hindering step, however, is the necessity to prepare a pure population of T cells from the patients first and then transduce them with lentivirus to generate CAR-T cells in vitro, as the lentivirus currently used in CAR-T manufacturing infect not only T cells but also other cells as well.
Here in Obtendo Therapeutics Inc, instead, we develop CAR-expressing lentivirus to infect only T lymphocytes. Upon direct intravenous injection, these lentiviruses will find and infect T cells to express CAR, thus forming CAR-T cells within the body, i.e., in vivo, omitting the complex CAR-T manufacturing process in vitro . Lentiviruses can be manufactured and frozen in large stocks – such off-the-shelf products are thus made available in convenience and affordable for many more patients who need the therapy desperately.
To potentially boost the effect of CAR-T therapy, we also develop next generation oncolytic virus to not only kill cancer cells, but to activate the anti-cancer immunity as well. Our unique oncolytic virus platforms mitigate the pre-existing anti-virus immunity, allowing multiple/systemic administration possible and, ideally, boosting the CAR-T therapies.
